Project 52:44 Halloween

Halloween was very different for us than in the past few years.  For one, it was close to 10 degrees outside which is way too cold for kids our age to be trick or treating.  Thankfully, the hospital goes all out with its Halloween celebration.  Each clinic host a themed hallway and gives out candy to the kids. Plus the library was turned into a haunted house.  The hospital turned out to be a really fun event for the boys.

The boys decided they wanted to carve squash this year so we gave it a try.  I definitely know now why people carve pumpkins instead.  These babies were not easy to carve.

Penn's costume this year was recycled from Sammy two years ago...with one important addition.

Rather than being a regular referee he was a replacement referee.  It was just too easy.

Taking a break

Sammy told Nate this year that he wanted to be a Chinook.  We weren't really sure how that was going to happen but Nate came through with an awesome costume!

And last but not least, Nate was a monkey doctor.

Happy Halloween!

Project 52:43 Stylin'

Penn's first haircut was this weekend. We added him into the Sammy and Nate lineup.  Now all three are looking pretty stylish but, of course, we had to commemorate Penn's first haircut.

Project 52:42 Gymnastics

This year we enrolled Sammy and Penn into gymnastics.  It works out perfectly because both of their classes run at the exact same time, which allows me to be with Penn while Sammy is in his class.  Because the gymnasium is one big open space, I can watch Sammy at the same time.  I've been really impressed with the strength training they've been working on with Sammy.  His core strength seem to have improved over the last few weeks.

A funny story about Sammy is that last week I asked his coach about how Sammy is doing in class.  I had noticed that some of the other kids were not listening to the coach.  I wanted to make sure that Sammy was listening to what his coach was asking of him. (Especially since listening seems to be an area we struggle with at home. :)  ) So, when I questioned the coach about how Sammy is doing in class, the coach laughed and said, "Yes, Sammy behaves well and listens to me, but he does talks a lot."

It made me laugh because he really does talk all the time.

Penn's class, on the other hand, is basically a free for all.  Just picture a dozen 1 year olds running wild with lots of obstacle, balls, ladders and trampolines in their paths.  It keeps me on my toes.  But it's a lot of fun to see Penn exploring each of the different apparatuses.  It's also fun for me to have some one-on-one time with him.

Project 52:41 Snow

It's finally snowing here in Alaska!  Only a few short weeks ago we had beautiful fall colors and that has now been replaced with snow.  The boys are loving the snow.  Although, because it's been in the teen's here we aren't able to stay outside too long.  We just haven't acclimated to the cold temperatures yet. I guess we'll always have a little bit of Texas in us. :)

So excited to see snow!
