Please join us in celebrating Sammy's 1st birthday on April 5th by commenting with a few words, a bible verse, or a story. This blessing from family and friends will encourage him when he's older.
Dear Sammy, One year ago your parents began a journey that would change their lives forever. God chose you to be their first born and what a blessing you have been to them, and them to you. When you are old enough to read this, I hope you have an unwavering certainty of their love for you and their commitment to raise you to know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
You should also know that at the wee age of one you have not only captured the hearts of your two parents, but also the young hearts of many of San Antonio's most eligible little girls. It's hard to tell if it is your charming smile, incredible dimples, or smooth dance moves, but it is a fact, no doubt.
We love you Sammy and wish you another fantastic year!
Happy Birthday my little superman! You are my superman for many reasons. You survived water skiing on Crooked Lake and you survived being Blue Steel! You ARE my superman!
I have watched you for one year, my dear Sammy, and here are some of my observations: (1) you have amazing parents, my dear superman, your daddy is a wonderful model and your mommy takes very good care of you, (2) my dear Sammy, you have a gentle heart - When I have observed you with other children and with your family you have a gentleness and a sweet spirit, (3) you have a long attention span, which demonstrates a good mind, I have watched you play with your toys you spend a good amount of time working with toys – studying them. I have also seen this when I am reading with you. You look at the pages, and seem to understand the words, (4) well, my Sammy you can dance. You get this “honest” you mom and dad are great dancers. Your dad has moves that only professional dancers can make! Therefore, keep up the good moves…ladies like this!, (5) you are adorable. I love when you look at me with such a sweet face – huge eyes – with a sparkle – and those dimples!....Lastly, (6) it is my prayer that you will grow up to be a man of integrity – there is absolutely no higher calling.
Therefore, I would like to recall at this time my two blessings for you, theses were given in the company of friends and family on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009.
Blessing # 1 – That Nathan Samuel will Hear God’s Voice and Will Answer God’s Voice
In the Old Testament Hannah was married to Elkanah. Elkanah had two wives. His first wife had sons, but his second wife, Hannah was barren. Hannah prayed to God for a child. “O Lord Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head” (I Samuel 1:9). God answered Hannah's prayer and gave her Samuel. After Samuel was weaned, Hannah kept her word and took Samuel to the temple to Eli the priest.* While Samuel was serving at the temple he thought he heard Eli call his name. Samuel went to see Eli but Eli had not called his name, it was God calling Samuel. Samuel answered Here I am. Samuel was Israel’s last judge and he anointed Saul as King, he also anointed David. Samuel was a great judge and a great prophet. *Hannah then had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Therefore, the first blessing is that Nathan Samuel will hear God's voice and he will answer God's voice.
Blessing #2 That Nathan Samuel will be Bold and Fearless for Truth
The name Nathan in Hebrew means God has Given. Nathan followed Samuel as a prophet serving King David and King Solomon. The prophet Nathan was wise and he was a steadfast servant of God. It was Nathan that confronted King David about Bathsheba. The prophet Nathan was bold and he was fearless. Therefore, Nathan Samuel's second blessing is that he would be bold and fearless for truth.
Wow! A whole year! We can’t believe it and it has gone by so fast. You are growing by leaps and bounds and we can see a little bit of both of your parents in you; dimples from your Mom and the Mohawk from your Dad. :) We are so looking forward to this next year to spend time with you and to be awed by your continued growth. You are a handsome guy! We wish you the best birthday ever and for God’s continued love and grace toward you and your parents, as you grow as a family. Keep up the good work! Happpy First Birthday! All of our love, Grandpa and Kiki.
It seems like just yesterday we were anxiously waiting to hear about the moment when your Mom and Dad would get to hold you for the first time. We all eagerly anticipated your arrival as the first grand baby in our family. You have not disappointed us! Your zest for life is already evident as you take delight in the sights, sounds, and people around you. Even though we haven't gotten to see you nearly as much as we would like, we already love you so much for the little person that you are becoming. You bring a smile to our faces and so much joy to our hearts.
One day when you are old enough to understand these words, we hope you know how much we love you and can't wait to support the dreams you are sure to have. With your amazing Mom and Dad, wicked awesome family, and mighty God by your side, you can rise to anything that he may call you to. We are so proud of you, Sammy!
Do you feel the 4/5/09 2/3/87 connection yet? Because I sure do. I would also like to get in writing that your first words were 'Unka Gak' which I take for 'Uncle Zach' anyday - don't let your Mom and Dad tell you otherwise. Anyways, I'm glad you lived out your first year in style, and I bet your next one will be even better. See you in a month!
Even though we live so far apart, we were able to blessed by your presence several times this past year. Each time we were able to see how precious you truly are. Your smile is contagious, and your attentive spirit is refreshing. You bring joy to everyone around you.
It has been a privilege to watch you with your family. You are surrounded by a family who loves and serves the Lord. We are excited to watch you grow in His life as you come to know how great He truly is!!
Happy 1st Birthday! Even though we don't get to see you very much, we think of you often. We know that you are one lucky kid to be raised by such loving and supportive parents (even though your Dad is a little strange... he wears women's Christmas sweaters). We look forward to family vacations and many wild adventures to be shared among the Salinas and Grant boys.
We'd like to recommend Jeremiah 17:7-8 as you grow in years. Love, Chris & Kimi Grant
Dear Sammy, Uncle Keith and Aunt Nancy send lots of love on your first birthday. You are a precious one and we thank God that He has brought you into our world. Although you don't know us very well, we love your mom and dad and especially your grammy. She is as close to family as you can get. So, that makes you almost family too. You were born into one great family.....lots of love and fun!!!! We love you and wish you a very happy first birthday. May God bless you with many more healthy and happy years ahead.
Sammy, Sammy, now you're ONE-- Being with you is too much fun! Jesus made you strong and bright. You bring smiles, even at night! "Gift of God" is your middle name. With you joy and wonder came.
Thank you to everyone for the wonderful comments to Sammy on his birthday. I cannot express how meaningful it is to us that you would bless Sammy in this way.
I thought I would add another comment about the Bible verse, Jeremiah 17:7-8. In earlier comments, Kimi and Chris recommended it for Sammy as he grows and Debbie commented that she used the same verse to pray over Nathan. I want to add that when Nathan and I were married we chose Jeremiah 17:7-8 to be a foundational verse for our marriage. Therefore, we have the same verse inscribed on the inside of our wedding rings!
I am amazed how this verse keeps being reiterated throughout Nate and my life and now in Sammy's. It makes me wonder if their are times when God specifically calls us to a place in his Word and uses it to speak directly to a us.
It gives me something to reflect on and pray about as Sammy grows and as Nate and I continue to parent him.
Dearest Sammy, As we celebrate your birthday from afar (Washington State), and we follow the beginnings of your journey with Christ, we cannot help but smile knowing that He has great plans for you. You have two wonderful parents to help teach you about His love for you. Our blessing for you is to pray that you live and grow in true love of your family, God, God's creation and your self. We lift up Philippians 1:9-11 for contemplation during your birthday season.
Dear Sammy, It was so much fun to see you on Skype. You are moving around so fast. It makes me smile to think that I have to put on my running shoes to keep up with you!
I can't believe how big you are, and growing every day. You are such a joy to me, and i can't wait to play with you soon.
Sammy, you are a blessed boy because so many love you.
