When we arrived in Fairbanks, the housing situation was worse than we expected. We had a very hard time finding a suitable place to live off post and were given an 8 month wait for on post housing. Taking our options into account, we decided to purchase a home in Fairbanks.
We're really excited about our new home but will not close on the house until the end of August. For the past two weeks we've been living in a hotel and won't be moving for another three weeks. The boys do not seem to mind hotel life but Nate and I are ready to be in a permanent home.
Despite being ready to move, we've enjoyed exploring post and learning about the different activities it has to offer. I thought I would share some pictures from around post.
An electrical outlet located next to our parking space at the hotel. Alaskans have their cars winterized with a heating "blanket" around the engine. When temperatures drop below freezing, we have to plug our car in so that it'll start when we try to drive.
I've been resisting including this picture on the blog but it's really the epitome of Sammy's daily conversation. He's so impressed because Alaska has colorful dumpsters! Each dumpster is for a different recycling item. Despite the number of fun things to do in Alaska, we start every morning with going through out trash looking for trash to put in the dumpsters.

Your posts clearly demonstrate that the Salinas boys are adding depth to their "world" experiences...even with the colorful dumpsters and electrical outlets!
